STUDIO JAROŠ/BEDNÁŘ CTU
BOHEMIAN PERFECTION
JASANKY
In the Jaroš/Bednář studio I collaborated with Jasanky within the Bohemian Perfection project. Zdeněk and Michal from Jasanky are both very nice people, so it was a pleasure to work with them. They really know almost everything about what it takes to ride well on wood on snow, whether it's skis or sledges. They have spent several years themselves developing testing new variations before they perfected everything.
After my first excursion to their workshop, it was clear to me that it would be a great shame not to use their experience, so I knew I was going to design something for snow. I commuted to their workshop to manufacture powsurf under their guidance. It was a great help to see how things are done in a real workshop, where they still produce quality goods, and it was the first time I had ever seen and tried steam bending wood.
The result of our collaboration is a board that combines features of surfboard and snowboard. The construction is glued with a classic tooth joint made of ash and cherry boards, which are fitted with non-slip oak pins. The board is lighter than any snowboard with bindings and therefore easier to carry to the top of a snowy hill. Riding the powsurf, which has no bindings or steel edges, is absolute freedom for me. All you need is a comfortable pair of warm boots, a board and a hill covered in a nice layer of centimeters of powder snow.
