The main idea was to create a mortar and pestle part of the cutting board oriented towards making pesto rather than frequent crushing of hard spices. At the same time, when the mortar is not in use, it would act as a storage tray on the cutting board for already chopped ingredients. Therefore, its use will almost certainly be more frequent than that of a conventional mortar. Last but not least, it can also be used as a serving plate.
