ZD STUDIO JAROŠ/DOUCET CTU
The goal of this project was to create a candle holder for both a tea light and a table candle. At the same time, I focused on the festival of the coming of the light Lucia in Sweden. Here, people gather in public places and hold a tall lit candle to the sound of traditional singing as part of the celebration. I was surprised to see that the candle is only held by its body and the hand is protected from wax dripping by a paper "plate" which is then thrown away.
So I designed a candle holder that can be used just as well at home on the table all year round as in the hand during the celebration of Lucia. The candle holder consists of two pieces. For the bottom piece, designed to hold a tea light candle, I chose walnut wood with a fire resistant finish as the material. The second piece is made of pressed brass and can hold a tall table candle from both sides. Both parts fit together and can form a compact unit. However, they work equally well side by side, or completely separately.
